Cóilín Parsons' The Ordnance Survey and Modern Irish Literature was awarded the 2017 Alpha Sigma Nu Book Award. Established in 1979, the award was created by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) and Sigma Nu with the aim of recognizing the accomplishments of faculty at Jesuit colleges and universities. 

The Alpha Sigma Nu Book Award deciding body cites the importance of The Ordnance Survey and Modern Irish Literature, writing that it is "...an outstanding scholarly contribution to the discipline of literary studies, as well as to Irish Studies, scholarship on Modernism, postcolonial studies, and fields such as cartography and geography."
