The deadline to apply for the AB/MA program is April 1, 2020.
The English Department’s AB/MA program allows qualified undergraduate Georgetown University students to enroll in up to two graduate-level English courses during each semester of their senior year. Interested students must apply during their junior year. Two of these courses will also count toward the undergraduate major in English.
The Graduate School considers AB/MA students part of the Master's program, and they are automatically admitted following their undergraduate graduation, though they are not obligated to continue.
Interested applicants should first contact the Program Administrator to notify them of interest in the program. Then, they should follow the standard application procedure for the Master's program during their junior year. The GRE requirement will be waived.
AB/MA students who wish to earn a M.A. in English at Georgetown should prepare an updated application during the fall of their senior year to be considered for tuition remission during their graduate studies. This updated application is due January 1, 2020 and should include:
- A statement of purpose that gives clear rationale for your suitability for tuition remission
- An updated unofficial transcript
- An updated writing sample
- One new letter of recommendation
We will continue to waive the GRE requirement. Students may email this updated application directly to the Program Administrator.
Remember, even if you are not selected for tuition remission, you are still admitted to the Master's program. If you do not wish to continue, please notify the Program Administrator by the time you graduate.
If you have any questions about either the AB/MA program or the M.A. program,
please contact the Program Administrator.
