Celebrating the 2026-27 ECo Impact Award Recipients

Dr. Libbie Rifkin, Teaching Professor in the Dept. of English and Associate Director of the Disability Studies Program, was a member of a team of Researchers including “Dr. Pamala Trivedi from Georgetown University, Dr. Antonios Christou from the University of Thessaly in Greece, and Nathalie Moschou from Life is for All (LIFA), a Greek family advocacy organization, with Dr. Joan Lombardi from the Georgetown University Thrive Center for Children and Families serving as senior advisor.”

Earth Commons‘ announcement described the project:
“Working across the United States and Greece, the team will engage families and youth with disabilities in surfacing the barriers and developmentally appropriate considerations that emergency responders need to understand in order to serve people with disabilities safely during climate disasters. These include considerations around communication, sensory environment, behavioral and emotional responses to crisis, mobility and medical needs, and the disruption of routines that many children with disabilities depend on.”

Prof. Libbie RIfkin, a white woman with short brown hair and tortoise shell glasses, smiles in a blue top while standing against a stone wall.

The Department of English is elated to celebrate such an achievement! Congratulations, Dr. Rifkin, and to the entire research team!
