ENGL 605-01: Global Modernisms
Section Description:
This seminar explores novels, films, manifestos, and photography from the first half of the twentieth century. We will frame our analyses of canonical and non-canonical modernist and avant-garde works within contemporary critical discussions of the global, worldly, and planetary, as well as within influential theories of colonialism and imperialism, and race, class, gender, and sexual politics. Primary texts include works by authors and artists from the U.S., the Caribbean, India, Continental Europe, and the British Isles. Requirements: presentations, paper proposal, a final seminar paper, postings on electronic bulletin board, participation.
