Georgetown’s English Department helped to host a major national conference on “Centering the Humanities,” 1-3 June of 2023 (new window). Partnering with the Modern Language Association (MLA), the Association of Departments of English (ADE), the Association of Language Departments (ALD), and many other Georgetown departments and programs, our English Department welcomed leaders, scholars, and students from universities across the US and Canada to DC and to our campus for a three-day conference on the future of the humanities across and beyond higher education. Many faculty from the English Department and the University Writing Program, including Prof’s Randy Bass, Maureen Corrigan, Libbie Rifkin, Eddie Maloney, Maggie Debelius, David Lipscomb, and Heather Steffen, participated in keynote, plenary, and discussion sessions across the three days, and English graduate students were able to attend professional development sessions designed especially for them. Georgetown partners supporting the conference included the Georgetown Humanities Initiative, the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics (FLL), CNDLS, the Red House, and the MA Program in Engaged and Public Humanities.

Thank you to all involved in making this conference possible!
