English Department Faculty Participate in the Annual MLA Convention in Vancouver
Several English Department faculty members have traveled to Vancouver, British Columbia, this week to meet with their colleagues at the Modern Language Association’s annual convention.
Here is a sample of some of the activities they will be participating in at the convention:
- Dana Luciano will join two panels: “Speaking Substances from the Anthropocene” and “Reading Beyond the Human”; there will also be a book party to celebrate the release of her collection Unsettled States.
- Brian Hochman will be participating (virtually!) at a roundtable discussion titled, “Return to In the Land of the Head Hunters: Silent Feature Film and the Negotiation of Memory in British Columbia,” in honor of a new restoration of Edward S. Curtis’ classic 1914 ethnographic film In the Land of the Headhunters.
- Henry Schwarz will participate in the panel “Remembering The Location of Culture: Circulations, Interventions, and Futurity.”
- Henry Schwarz and Cóilín Parsons will both be on the panel “Memories of the Future: Collectivity and the Global South in Žižek, Jameson, and Spivak.”
