The department is excited to announce that Professor Zein El-Amine’s short story collection “Is This How You Eat a Watermelon?” has been placed on the Longlist for the 2023 PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize for Debut Short Story Collection. The book has already been awarded the Megaphone Prize for short fiction and was published by Radix Media in November 2023. This year’s judges — Nafissa Thompson Spires, Chris Gonzalez, and Susan Muaddi Darraj — were honored to have read many exceptional works and El-Amine’s book “truly resonated with them”.

You can read more about this award in the press release from PEN America.

Congratulations, Professor El-Amine!
